Making Miniature Furniture Instructions.

miiature furniture collage

Here are some general guidelines on how to interpret and follow my Making Miniature Furniture Instructions. It is always best to read through the full set of instructions to familiarize yourself as to, not only what I am doing, but why I've chosen the particular order of steps.

I do recommend that you take a moment and read through my How To Make Miniature Furniture - How To Basics Section. There I outline the techniques that are common to all of my miniature furniture making, along with links to some more advanced methods of gluing, sanding, painting, staining and finishing your miniature masterpiece.

Each individual set of
Making Miniature Furniture Instructions
follow these basic guidelines.

Introduction...

This is just a general discussion about the particular piece of furniture. Included are some general comments about its style, options, if any, and some furnishing ideas. Anything of special note about its assembly would be noted here and in the instructions.

Miniature Lumber Cut Sheet...

There is a full scale printable sheet showing each of the parts to be made for the particular piece of miniature furniture. It has a 1" reference square located on it so that you can be sure your printer is printing the proper size.

If the printout is larger or smaller then it should be you can refer to my Calculating Percentages Section to see how to make adjustments to your printer's settings.(Link opens in a new window, just close it to return here)

Miniature Assembly Steps...

I have tried to outline each step in an easy to follow manner along with many illustrations to support the written instructions. To assemble dollhouse miniatures, I've broken the steps down into small groups, allowing for a "breather" between steps.

I always seem to have one interruption or another going on and this technique allows me to break away in logical places. An added benefit is that these breather breaks allow the glue to set a little longer (or another sip of coffee) before the next onslaught of major construction.

Miniature Furniture Finishing...

If there any extra or unique requirements to finishing a particular piece of miniature furniture, then they'll be outlined at the tail end of the instructions. Refer to my Miniature Painting ...or... Staining ...or... Finishing How To Basics for most of the "normal" finishing techniques.

Modifications or Additional Ideas...

If for a given piece there are any modifications that can be done to make it look different or serve a different purpose I'll make note of it here at the end of the instructions. This could include tips for making own dolls house furniture of similar design.
