When gluing strips edge to edge (or butting end to end) apply a small bead of glue along the edge of one piece. Lay them both down on a flat surface, make contact with the two edges and gently slide the one edge against the other (to spread the glue evenly), align, and hold until the glue sets.
When gluing an edge to a surface, place the bead of glue on the edge, align to the drawing and slide the edge to the surface,(I usually work on the drawing). Make adjustments and hold until the glue sets.
If the joint is in the middle of a surface and there no way to use a flat surface; measure for its location (using the drawing as a guide) and place a small pencil mark where its to be. Apply the glue to the edge as above, align to the mark, and hold until set. Don't rush when making these glue joints. 10 to 15 seconds is plenty of time to get the glue on and align the two pieces. I do work on a piece of wax paper as the glue has less tendencies to stick to it. If you work directly on the drawing, you will have to shave the glue joints to remove paper residue. I've also worked on a piece of glass which if the glue gets on the glass a razor blade can be used to clean it off. Follow Safety Instructions...You will get some of this glue on your fingers. I don't have a super answer on how to get it off. After a few times of washing your hands, and with the moisture from your skin, the glue will just peel off. Be sure to follow the directions and safety warnings on the tube or package of the glue. These warnings are there for a reason and should be followed.
