Miniature Bedroom Bed

How To Make Miniature Furniture
for Dollhouse Miniatures How To Projects

The Centerpiece of Your Miniature Bedroom

The miniature bedroom bed is the centerpiece of your miniature bedroom. Full size beds come in many sizes, single, double, twin, queen and king for sure. You can even get them in shapes, of course round comes to mind first. But let's not get carried away, remembering our miniature rooms are just that - miniature.

Most doll houses have rooms in scale from 9 to 12 feet by 10 to 14 feet. A doll house room of 12 x 14 is a large room for a doll house. And some rooms are even smaller then 9 x 12, like a bathroom for instance.

I build my beds as singles, twins or doubles, leaving me more floor space and room for the other miniature bedroom furniture. If I have a room in mind ahead of time, I'll even shorten the bed a little so it fits better into the overall room - not much shorter because it will lose its proportion and not look quite right.

The style of miniature bedroom bed you choose usually sets the stage for the rest of the dollhouse bedroom furniture and doll house room decorations.

I prefer contemporary designs because the lines are clean and I can show off all the little miniatures that I include as decoration. The simple design that we have here for our miniature bedroom bed can take on many looks and styles just by changing the headboard and footboard.

The materials we will be using for this design come from our miniature lumber inventory. There is one more piece that we will need which is a 1/4" (6.35 mm) square piece of basswood, found at your local craft or hobby store. The piece that I bought is 24" (61 cm) long and cost around 60 cents.

The head and footboards for this bed are about as simple as you can get. A plain contemporary design with a slight curve added to the tops. I've made these from the tongue depressors of our miniature lumber supply.

Note: I will be offering an extra headboard section for additional ideas on other simple miniature bedroom bed designs at a later time and will post a notice in my blog when they're online.

Click on the safe and secure XML RSS and you will receive a notice when there has been another exciting update.

You'll notice too that I have the drawings in a two tone finish - I did this so the instruction drawings would be more clear.
