Miniature Chest Assembly Step 1...
As you can see in the drawing, I use the square, with the ruler removed, as a backup for holding the chest top vertical to the work surface. I place a small bead of glue along the edge of one side and slide it up to the top, aligning it true to the edge of the top. Hold for 10 -15 seconds or until the glue sets. The top of the chest should protrude past the leading edge of the side by the thickness of a drawer front.
(See the drawings for Step 4)

As I apply this bead of glue to the side I try to shy towards the inside edge so little or no glue makes it to the outside face of the side. Repeat the process for the second side. Use the square against the side to hold it square to the top as the glue sets. You want to try to hold things square, but don't panic if thing are a little skewed. There is enough flex in the joint that we'll be able to true everything up when we stet the drawers in place.
An Alternate method of assembling...

Another way to glue this first side to the chest's top is shown here. Be sure when using this method that the back of the top and the back of the side are even and flush. The front of the top should overhang the side as shown. This overhang or lip, should stick out the thickness of a drawer front.
(See the drawings for Step 4)
Miniature Chest Assembly Step 2...
Now we can take the bottom and glue it into place. I glue it about 1/4" (6.35 mm) up from the bottom, as shown.

This location is not important because the piece will not be seen once the unit is completed. It is only there for support and to enable you to hold the parts square. Allow this sub assembly to set for a few extra minutes to insure that the glue has completely set before moving onto the addition of the drawer fronts.
