Miniature Chest Assembly Step 4...
We can now add the trim pieces. I stain these pieces before I assemble them which gives me good clean edges where they meet the rest of the chest.

So inspect your trim parts and give them a light sanding as you did with the miniature chest sub-assembly. Wipe them clean and stain away. You might want to do a test fit, just before staining, just in case you have to sand the trim length a touch to get all the edges to align properly. This is where my
sanding block
comes in handy. A small bead of glue across the back of each trim piece, align them to the top and each other and let the glue set. I set the top front trim first and before the glue sets I slide it to align with one of the side trim pieces. Then I put on the second side trim. If the top trim is not perfect, don't panic. You can still touch up the edges with an emery board. Then just wipe a little stain over that edge. But do try to get the test fits correct.
Miniature Chest Assembly Step 5...
When I set the next "layer" of trim, I use the square to help keep the side trim square and even, as shown in the drawing.

I do go through the test fit process and make any adjustments that may be necessary.

Repeat the process for the bottom set of trim pieces. Set the almost completed chest aside to dry and give the glue some extra curing time.
