Miniature Dresser Assembly Step 1...

I use the square, with the ruler removed, as a backup for holding the dresser top vertical to the work surface. I place a small bead of glue along the edge of one side and slide it up to the top, aligning it true to the edge of the dresser top. Hold for 10 -15 seconds or until the glue sets. The top of the dresser should protrude past the leading edge of the side by the thickness of a tongue depressor.

I try to shy towards the inside edge as I apply this bead of glue to the side so little or no glue makes it to the outside face of the side.

Repeat the process for the second side. Use the square against the side to hold it square to the top as the glue sets. You want to try to hold things square. If things are a little skewed, don't panic, there is enough flex in the joint that we'll be able to true everything up in a later step.

An Alternate method of assembling...

Another way to glue this first side to the dresser's top is shown here. Be sure when using this method that the back of the top and the back of the side are even and flush. The front of the top should overhang the side as shown. This overhang or lip, should stick out the thickness of a tongue depressor. Though not clear in the picture, glue the edge of the side to the underside of the top.

Miniature Dresser Assembly Step 2...

Now we can take the center brace and the bottom and glue them into place.

Miniature Dresser Assembly Step 2

Apply a small bead of glue on all 4 end edges of the parts. Align the center brace as shown and slide the bottom into place. The center support location is not important because the piece will not be seen once the unit is completed. It is only there for support and to enable you to hold the parts square. But do try to get it on center.

Allow this sub assembly to set for a few extra minutes to insure that the glue has set, before moving onto the addition of the drawer fronts.
